Union County's Office of Planning and Economic Development administers a county subdivision and land development ordinance; the county describes the current text as the 2026 amended Union County Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance. Under the Municipalities Planning Code it reaches municipalities that have not adopted one of their own. On sewage the county layer is empty: DEP's service tabulation lists all 14 Union County municipalities as running their own Act 537 programme.

North Branch Buffalo Creek, Spruce Run, Cherry Run are carried on DEP's Chapter 93 drainage lists as Exceptional Value, and 9 further Union entries are High Quality. A lot draining to one of them loses the § 71.51(b) planning exemption: the sewage module goes to the municipality and then to DEP, which is a second reviewer and a longer clock rather than a different septic system. Check your own stream on the drainage list before assuming the ordinary path.

The dominant constraint here is slow-percolating subsoil below 12 inches (48.1% of rated soils), followed by bedrock within 60 inches of the surface (46.2%). NRCS rates 90.0% of rated ground very limited for a conventional in-ground trench, 60.0% for a sand mound and 42.6% for drip irrigation -- where conventional is out, drip is often the system that works.
