Miami County's zoning is split between the county and four townships. The county's Planning & Zoning Department administers county zoning for eight of the twelve townships — Concord, Monroe, Newberry, Newton, Springcreek, Staunton, Union and Washington — while Bethel, Brown, Elizabeth and Lostcreek administer their own. The same department administers the county subdivision regulations and the flood damage reduction resolution across all unincorporated areas.

On those parcels the off-lot discharging route is closed and the system has to be a soil-absorption design, whatever the lot looks like.

The dominant constraint here is water perching on a restrictive layer (34.9% of rated soils), followed by a water table close to the surface (24.7%).
