The Ashtabula County Health Department issues household sewage operation permits that run ten years, renew automatically at no charge where the system is working properly and creating no nuisance, and carry an inspection at least once in every five-year period. Its homeowner guidance also states that a lot must meet the department's own minimum lot size requirements before it will issue a lot evaluation, but does not publish the figure — ask the department for it.
